Photoshop Hue/Saturation modifying image colors

I have had a few friends ask me how to change the shirt color or a persons eyes in pictures using Photoshop. This is something I do all the time! If I find a image on stock.xchng (free stock photo site) and I don't like the shirt color someone is wearing I simply modify it in Photoshop to my liking.

Today I am going to use an example of a Tree frog to adjust its hue and saturation. The reason I wanted to use a tree frog is because it has very bright vibrant colors but you can use this tutorial on any image!

The first thing we are going to do is create a new Photoshop file by going to File-->new and select your size and background color. For my image I am using a white background 510 wide by 373 high. Now that we have a blank Photoshop file lets create a new layer. Open up your layers panel (F7 or go to Window-->Layers) and create a new layer. I called my layer Tree Frog. Now paste in your image that you wish to change.

Okay so now we have a green tree frog. Now lets spice him up a little bit. I am a fan of purples and bright blues so in this example I am going to adjust my hue to those colors. Make sure your layer is selected and go to Image-->Adjustments-->Hue/Saturation. For my Hue I am going to set it to -180 and my saturation to +16 to get his feet just a little more bright

So our frog is looking pretty cool right about now. He reminds me a little bit of the cool Sobe Life Water Lizards on the super bowl commercial dancing to Michael Jackson Thriller(Don't know what I'm talking about? See it here). Now lets get into a little more detail. Lets say I wanted to change just his eye color now to orange. I am more of a Lasso tool kind of girl myself as far as select pieces of an image but for this example I am going to use the magic wand tool.. Click on the magic wand in your tools. I set my tolerance to 50 Anti-alias checked and Contiguous checked(located at the top just under the file menu). Now click on the blue part of the frogs eye. Your will notice it will only make a small selection. To Continue selecting the blue area of the eye hold down shift and continue clicking. This will allow you to select the whole blue area of the eye. If you select an area that you didn't want hold down alt and click the area that you don't want. You will now have a selection like the one below.

Now click Image-->Adjustments-->Hue/Saturation. The only thing I am going to change on this one is the saturation. I set my saturation to -155 to give me a nice bright orange. Now you will do the same for the other eye. There you have it! You should have a finished product like the one below. Now you can change shirt colors eye colors or even whole images to any color of your choice. Still confused watch my video tutorial
