Error #2044: Unhandled skinError:. text=Error #2121: Security sandbox violation

Error #2044: Unhandled skinError:. text=Error #2121: Security sandbox violation: Loader.content: http://domain1.com/video1.SWF cannot access http://domain2.com/SkinUnderAllNoVolNoCaptionNoFull.SWF. This may be worked around by calling Security.allowDomain.

I was working on a video for a client recently and ran into a Security sandbox violation. What I was trying to do was allow the skin itself to be loaded with the FLV no matter where the client placed it. In this instance they were wanting to post it on an internal page. The problem was the skin would not load on any other domain other than where it was located.

I searched all over the place trying to figure this issue out. There were a lot of forum posts on the issue but there where not any fixes that I could find. I tried several different ways of attempting to fix the issue and nothing seemed to be working. I started thinking about the CS3 default skins and how they access the FLV Playback Component. I noticed a lot of posts using the following code in the SWF containing the FLV Playback Component

Security.allowDomain("http://www.domain1.com");

Sure that allows access to objects and variables within that SWF itself but it still wouldn't allow my skin to come through. I had moved on to something else when I started thinking about the skin SWF. If I allowed the security.allowDomain to access it from the actual skin it should work. I added the code and poof there it was no sandbox violation.

So here is how I did it.

After you have imported your FLV and selected your default CS3 skin go ahead and save and publish your files (Ctrl + Enter). This will create your SWF and your skin file. Open the directory where your new files are located. Now copy your skin SWF in my case my skin is called SkinUnderAllNoVolNoCaptionNoFull.SWF. Now place the skin under your parent domain (where you want the skin to be called from).

Now click on your FLV in the stage we are going to change a parameter of the FLV Playback component. Once you have clicked on the FLV open your parameters tab. Click on skin and change the skin to Custom Skin URL (all the way at the bottom of the list). Now you are going to put in the full path of where you placed your skin file on your parent domain and click okay. In my case mine is going to be http://www.domain1.com/SkinUnderAllNoVolNoCaptionNoFull.SWF. The URL that you typed should actually open your skin if you type the URL into your browser. If it doesn't open your skin then your URL is not correct.

Now we are going to add an action to frame 1. Click on the first frame in your timeline and open up the actions tab. You are going to enter the following.

Security.allowDomain("http://www.domain1.com/SkinUnderAllNoVolNoCaptionNoFull.SWF");
//this is the parent domain of where your SWF file is located
//this is going to allow access to the domain specified

Okay so this should fix our actual SWF but now we need to modify the skin to allow access from domains other than domain1.com (your parent domain). Lets open up the skin file. In my case my skin files are located in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\en\Configuration\FLV Playback Skins\FLA\ActionScript 3.0 . I am modifying the SkinUnderAllNoVolNoCaptionNoFull.fla so open up the skin you are using in Flash CS3. Now add a new layer and click on frame 1 (in your new layer) in the timeline. Open up your actions panel and insert the following code

Security.allowDomain("*")
//You do not have to allow all domains. If you know the specified domain you are trying to access simply insert your url

Now save and publish the changes. This will create a new SWF in your C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\en\Configuration\FLVPlayback Skins\FLA\ActionScript 3.0 . We need to cut this new SWF from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\en\Configuration\FLVPlayback Skins\FLA\ActionScript 3.0 and place it on the parent domain where the SkinUnderAllNoVolNoCaptionNoFull.SWF is currently located.

That's it now you should be able to access your skin from your desired domain.

Hello, I'm experiencing this very problem right now, but I'm using a dynamic video playlist and getting this error - 1120: Access of undefined property Security... when I tried to add the Security.allowDomain("http://www.domain1.com/SkinUnderAllNoVolNoCaptionN..."); and code it breaks the playlist. I do have the flvplayback named myVid assigned this way in the AS code: myVid.skin = "http://images.allrecipes.com/site/bestbrand/area/c..."; in my videoplaylist.swf

And I did update the skin.fla and changed the FLVPlayback to custom with the full URL - let's hope that fixes it!

I initially created an XML based video viewer that connected to an RSS Feed in Flash CS3. I then used Flex 3 to control the flash based apps I have been working with. However, the skin and video would not load. I couldn't find any real answers from Adobe. Thanks to your blog I got an answer. Excellent job.

Brilliant. Thanks for that, I had the same problem and it was driving me crazy. What a bloody stupid thing! Adobe really swamped us all in red tape with all the security sandbox problems. They're going to turn people away from Flash if they don't stop making it pointlessly complicated. I'm already thinking about moving away from Flash
