Apple iPod Touch Second Generation is it worth it

When apple announced that they had released the new iPod Touch second generation I had to see what all the fuse was about. I love my iPod Touch I don't go anywhere with out it ;). I decided to head out to the apple store yesterday not expecting to actually find one in stock. I was amazed to find out that they sill had a few 16GB still in stock. I had the 8GB on my first generation but at this point figured I would be ready for the 16GB with my regular downloading I do from iTunes ha! I had a really nice sales guy at the Apple store who was really talking it up so when I pulled out my first generation iPod he said it would knock it out of the water. I at first was skeptical and wondered if it would be worth it. The new iPod Touch is priced great. The 8GB is now 229.00 the 16GB is 299.00 and the new 32GB is 399.00. I figured why not so I purchased it. I gave it a pretty good test run that evening and let me just say the sales guy was right!

Built-in speaker.

I absolutely love the built in speaker on the new iPod Touch second generation! There were so many times when I would want my husband to listen to a song and I either had to hand him over the head phones (I am possessive of my iPod ha) or play it through iTunes. Now I can just play the song its great! When I first heard the new Touch had a built in speaker I didn't think the sound quality would be very good. Let me just say for not having any holes for the actual speaker it sounds great! This is by far my favorite new features.

Side volume controls.

The new side control volume is a great new feature for me. I work out a lot and when your running on a treadmill it is not exactly easy to use the slider control on the ipod Touch to turn up the volume with out blowing your ears out ;). With the new side control I was able to turn the volume up or down without missing a beat!

Sleek New Design.

When the sales guy was telling me how much thinner the iPod Touch second generation was I almost didn't believe him. It wasn't until I actually sat the two side by side that I realized how much thinner it actually was. I carry my iPod in my purse when I am not using it but for someone who would carry it in their pocket this is great! The back on the new iPod Touch scratches just as easily as the first generation so make sure you get a case right away. They don't have cases out for the second generation yet but the silicone skins for the first generation will do the trick for now.

Longer Battery Life.

The First generation iPod Touch advertised battery life at 22 hours for music playback and 5 hours for video. On average I would get about 23 hours for audio playback and 6 hours for video. I thought that was pretty great. The second generation iPod Touch's battery life is at 36 hours for music playback and 6 hours for video. That's great now I can rock out longer between charges on trips etc. I travel a lot for taekwondo so I am not always in a place where I can just charge my battery when I feel like it. This is a much appreciated feature for me ...Thanks Apple!

A music Genius.

The new iPod Touch second generation is now equipped with Genius. With this feature it will find songs in your library that would go great together and create a play list off of those songs. I really like this feature.

The new iTunes 8 has the new Genius feature also. You can select a song that you have previously downloaded and it will search the iTunes library for songs that are not already on your iPod that would go great together. This really takes the headache out of coming up with songs that well go well together in your playlists. I love music and I will listen to just about anything besides country. This is a great way to find new artists!

Nike + iPod Compatibility.

I was so excited to hear that the new iPod Touch was going to support Nike+! You can use this feature with any nike plus running shoe or you can purchase a Nike + iPod Sport Kit from apple.com You can choose from different workouts including custom workout, open ended workout or select one with a distance or calorie goal. All you have to do is pick your favorite play list or shuffle songs. You can even program in a PowerSong to play if you need a little motivation! As you run your iPod tells you your time, distance, pace and calories burned. It even gives you feedback through your head phones. This is a great feature for me and I am so excited they have included this on the iPod Touch Second generation. I am always doing something to stay in shape and now I can easily track exactly what I am doing.....Now if only they could somehow incorporate this into updating my wii fit also ha!

Overall I would say the iPod Touch second generation was totally worth it for me. Thanks Apple!
