Border Image using CSS3
I have been doing a little research on CSS3 and I have discovered something that made me really happy. I have often said to myself "Boy I really wish CSS would support border images". Well guess what? CSS3 will support it! Wahoo! The style has two new properties border-image and border-corner-image. Yes that's right you can have a different image for your corners.
The following values can be used for border images
border-image:
border-top-image:
border-right-image:
border-bottom-image:
border-left-image:
border-corner-image:
border-top-left-image:
border-top-right-image:
border-bottom-left-image:
border-bottom-right-image:
So for example if you have
border-image: url(...) 60% 80% / 7% 5em 15% / 0 1em;
It would be equivalent to
border-image-source: url(...);
border-image-slice: 60% 80%;
border-image-widths: 7% 5em 15%;
border-image-outset: 0 1em;
border-top-image:
border-right-image:
border-bottom-image:
border-left-image:
border-corner-image:
border-top-left-image:
border-top-right-image:
border-bottom-left-image:
border-bottom-right-image:
So for example if you have
border-image: url(...) 60% 80% / 7% 5em 15% / 0 1em;
It would be equivalent to
border-image-source: url(...);
border-image-slice: 60% 80%;
border-image-widths: 7% 5em 15%;
border-image-outset: 0 1em;
I used the following code to display the border box. Keep in mind at this time you will only be able to view this using the Beta version of firefox which can be downloaded here or by using Safari 4 which is also available for windows.

If the first keyword is 'stretch', the top, middle and bottom images are further scaled to be as wide as the element's padding box. The height is not changed any further.
If the first keyword is 'round', the top, middle and bottom images are reduced in width, so that exactly a whole number of them fit in the width of the padding box.
The effects of 'stretch' and 'round' for the second keyword are analogous, acting on the height of the left, middle and right images.
